Gobekli Tepe Tour from Istanbul: Day Trip With Flights
This Göbekli Tepe tour from Istanbul by APS Travel Agency puts the return flights, the airport transfers, the entry tickets and the food inside one price of $674 per person. It is a private day trip for up to 14 people, so nobody outside your group joins the vehicle or the guide. The day runs from your Istanbul hotel to the airport, then to Göbekli Tepe, the Şanlıurfa Archaeology Museum and the old city, and back the same evening. The listing has 14 reviews and a 4.6 rating, which is fewer than some rivals on this site. This page sets out what the price covers, how the day runs and who should book something else. Compare it with other Göbekli Tepe tours on the Göbekli Tepe tour before you commit.

Quick answer The short answer
This $674 private day trip is the cheapest listing here that puts the Istanbul return flights in the base price, running in 1 day for groups of up to 14. Entry tickets, transfers, guide and food are included, with free cancellation up to 24 hours before departure.
Key takeaways
- Flights, tickets and food are in the price, so nothing is added on top. See the full table under what the price covers.
- One reviewer reports Harran was not on the guide's plan even though the highlights name it. Confirm with the operator, or pick the Göbekli Tepe and Harran Day Trip instead.
- Karahan Tepe is not on this route. If you want both sites in a day, see Göbekli Tepe and Karahan Tepe from Istanbul.
- The day is long. Compare two days with flights if you want a slower pace.
What the Price Actually Covers
This is the clearest inclusion list among the Istanbul day trips: the flights, the tickets and the meals are all inside the $674. The table below sets each line against the listing text.
Included, and What You Pay on Top
The listing's includes section names a live guide, flight tickets between Istanbul and Şanlıurfa, all transfers mentioned in the program, food and drinks, and entry tickets to the sites. That makes this the lowest-priced day trip from Istanbul with the flights in the base price, at $674 per person. The Göbekli Tepe Day Trip by Plane costs $915.37 per person, and the two-day option with flights costs $1,659.11.
There is one honest gap between the listing's parts. The highlights name Harran, but the full description lists only the Şanlıurfa city sights and no Harran stop, and one reviewer reports the guide's plan for the day did not include Harran. If Harran matters to you, message the operator and confirm it in writing before booking, or look at the Göbekli Tepe and Harran Day Trip.
The listing also names a packed lunch under what to bring while food and drinks sit in the includes list. Ask the operator which applies on your date.
| Line | In the price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Return flights Istanbul to Şanlıurfa | Yes | Named in the includes list |
| Airport and day transfers | Yes | All transfers mentioned in the program |
| Entry tickets to sites | Yes | Site entry on the program, including Göbekli Tepe and the museum |
| Live English-speaking guide | Yes | Private, just your group |
| Food and drinks | Yes | A packed lunch is also listed under what to bring, so confirm which applies |
| Hotel nights | No | Not applicable, it is a day trip |
| Tips and personal expenses | No | Not listed as included, so bring cash |
| Harran | Not stated | In the highlights but absent from the description, confirm with the operator |
The Not-included List Is Empty, Which Needs a Caution
The listing names nothing under not included. That does not mean the trip costs $674 in total, because tips, souvenirs and anything outside the program are yours to pay, and the listing itself tells you to bring cash. Budget for those as extras without expecting a stated figure, since none is given.
If you want a route that names its admissions more explicitly, the Göbekli Tepe Day Trip by Plane lists museum tickets and all taxes. You can also scan every option in the Göbekli Tepe tour.

How the Day Runs
The listing gives the running order but no clock times, so the table uses the day's phases as the listing describes them. Starting times appear once you check availability for a date.
From Your Hotel to the Temple Hill
A driver picks you up at your Istanbul hotel and transfers you to the airport for the flight to Şanlıurfa. The flight takes roughly 1 hour 41 minutes to 1 hour 55 minutes according to aggregator estimates. At Şanlıurfa GAP Airport, about 33.9 km northeast of the city, your guide meets you and the private vehicle drives to Göbekli Tepe, roughly 15-18 km from the city centre.
At the site you follow the wooden walkway past the excavated enclosures under the protective roof. A shuttle bus included in the entrance price runs from the main entrance up the final kilometre, or you can walk it. A full visit takes about 90 minutes.
The afternoon then moves into Şanlıurfa city: the Şanlıurfa Archaeology Museum, which holds finds from Göbekli Tepe and Nevali Çori, the Halil-ür Rahman Mosque, Ayn Zeliha and Balıklı Lake, the Rizvaniye Mosque, the cave where Prophet Abraham was born, and the bazaars around Sipahi Bazaar, Kazzaz Market and Ulucami. After the tour the vehicle returns you to the airport for the evening flight, and a driver meets you in Istanbul for the hotel transfer.
| Time | Stop | Time there |
|---|---|---|
| Pickup | Your Istanbul hotel, then the airport | Not stated |
| Flight | Istanbul to Şanlıurfa GAP Airport | About 1 h 41 min to 1 h 55 min |
| Morning | Göbeklitepe | About 90 minutes for a full visit |
| Afternoon | Şanlıurfa Archaeology Museum | Not stated |
| Afternoon | Halil-ür Rahman Mosque, Balıklı Lake, Rizvaniye Mosque, Abraham's Cave | Not stated |
| Afternoon | Şanlıurfa bazaars and Ulucami | Not stated |
| Evening | Flight back and hotel transfer in Istanbul | Not stated |
What the Day Does Not Reach
Karahan Tepe, the second Taş Tepeler site about 46 km from Şanlıurfa, is not on this route. Neither is Harran in the description, despite the highlights. If both temples in one day appeals, Göbekli Tepe and Karahan Tepe from Istanbul covers the pair with flights and entrance fees included for $900.
Who This Trip Rules Out
A one-day trip by plane packs a lot into a long day, and this listing has specific limits. Here is who should book a different option.
The Honest Limits, and the Fix for Each
Wheelchair users are excluded, the listing says so directly. The site itself is friendlier than the tour: the visitor centre, shuttles and main wooden walkway are described as wheelchair and stroller friendly, but this listing's vehicle and program are not booked as accessible, so contact operators individually or use the private day from Şanlıurfa as a base and arrange your own accessible transfer.
The day is long. With hotel pickup, a flight of about two hours, the sites, and an evening flight back, this is a 13 to 18 hour pattern like its rivals, and the listing states no start time in advance. If an early start and a single-day turnaround sound too much, the Göbekli Tepe 2-Day Private Tour with Flights splits the same route over two days with a hotel night in Şanlıurfa.
The review base is thin. Fourteen reviews and a 4.6 rating is fewer than the 46 reviews behind the Şanlıurfa day tour or the 99 behind the two-day private tour. If evidence matters to you, weight those listings more heavily.
Finally, check passports before you book. One reviewer says you must bring your passport. British citizens can visit Turkey without a visa for up to 90 days in any 180 for tourism, with a passport valid at least 150 days after arrival and one blank page.
Tickets, Season and Paperwork
The tour price covers your entries, so the practical details below are for context and for anyone visiting the sites independently around the tour.
Site Ticket and Hours
The Ministry tariff lists the joint Göbekli Tepe and Karahan Tepe site entry at €22 for foreign visitors, valid from 1 April, with MüzeKart accepted. Until then, secondary sources give about 20-22 EUR, so check muze.gov.tr for the current figure. Summer hours run 08:30 to 19:00 with the ticket office closing 18:30, and winter hours 08:30 to 17:00 with the office closing 16:30, open every day, per the Taş Tepeler project site.
Other sources differ on the switch dates, so confirm before travel.
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Foreign visitor entry, from 1 April | €22, MüzeKart accepted |
| Combined with the Visualisation Centre | €23 from 1 April |
| Summer hours | 08:30 to 19:00, ticket office to 18:30 |
| Winter hours | 08:30 to 17:00, ticket office to 16:30 |
| Shuttle and walkway | Shuttle included in the entrance price, or a 1 km walk on the path |
Heat, Advice and What to Carry
Şanlıurfa is hot. Mean daily maximums reach 35.7 °C in June, 39.5 °C in July and 39.0 °C in August, and the province recorded 47.7 °C at Ceylanpınar during the July heatwave. Spring and autumn are kinder, with April at 23.1 °C and October at 27.7 °C. In summer ask the operator for the earliest departure and carry the water, sunscreen and sun hat the listing asks for.
The FCDO advises against all travel to within 10km of the border with Syria due to fighting and a heightened risk of terrorism, and says in-person consular support is severely limited in areas where it advises against travel. Read the full advice before booking. British citizens need no visa for tourist stays up to 90 days in any 180, with the passport rules above.
For background before you fly, read the Göbekli Tepe tickets page and the guide to Şanlıurfa.
The Route Day by Day
The listing states the running order without clock times. The phases below follow its own description.
-
Pickup
Your Istanbul hotel to the airport
A driver collects you at your Istanbul hotel and transfers you to the airport for the flight. The listing gives no pickup window, so check availability for the starting time on your date.
-
Flight
Istanbul to Şanlıurfa
The flight to Şanlıurfa GAP Airport takes roughly 1 hour 41 minutes to 1 hour 55 minutes. Your guide meets you at the airport exit, and one reviewer advises calling the provider if the meeting is not obvious.
-
Göbekli Tepe
The temple hill
The private vehicle drives to Göbekli Tepe, roughly 15-18 km from the city centre. You visit the excavated enclosures under the protective roof on the wooden walkway, with a shuttle available for the final kilometre. A full visit takes about 90 minutes.
-
Museum
Şanlıurfa Archaeology Museum
The museum holds finds from Göbekli Tepe and Nevali Çori, including statues the listing describes as life-size and over 11,000 years old, among them the Urfa Man dated around 9000 BC.
-
Şanlıurfa
The Abraham sites and the bazaars
The afternoon covers the Halil-ür Rahman Mosque, Ayn Zeliha and Balıklı Lake, the Rizvaniye Mosque and the cave where Prophet Abraham was born, then the bazaars: Sipahi Bazaar, Kazzaz Market, Hacı Kamil Han, Hüseyiniye Bazaar, Naccar Bazaar, the Historical Customs Inn, Ulucami and the Kitchen Museum.

Return
Flight back and hotel drop-off

Pros and Cons
Weighed against the other Istanbul day trips, this listing wins on price transparency and loses on review depth and one unclear stop.
What we genuinely like
- The Istanbul return flights, transfers, entry tickets, guide and food are all inside the $674 price, the lowest base price among the day trips with flights included
- Private format, just your group of up to 14, so the pace and the stops are yours to steer with the guide
- Free cancellation up to 24 hours before departure, plus reserve now and pay later
- Covers Göbekli Tepe, the Archaeology Museum with the Göbekli Tepe and Nevali Çori finds, and the Abraham sites in one day
- Skip the ticket line is stated on the listing
The honest downsides
- Harran appears in the highlights but not in the description, and one reviewer says the guide's plan skipped it, so confirm in writing before booking
- Only 14 reviews back the 4.6 rating, fewer than most rival listings
- No wheelchair access, the listing excludes wheelchair users outright
- No departure time is published in advance, you see it only at booking
- Food is listed as included while a packed lunch also appears under what to bring, which is unclear until you ask
Who it's NOT for: Not for wheelchair users, not for travelers who need a guaranteed Harran stop, and not for anyone who wants Karahan Tepe, which needs the Göbekli Tepe and Karahan Tepe from Istanbul route instead.
Questions About This Tour
Are the Istanbul flights really included in the $674?
Yes, the includes list names flight tickets between Istanbul and Şanlıurfa and back, along with all transfers in the program, entry tickets, the guide and food and drinks. It is the cheapest day trip on this site with flights in the base price, ahead of the $915.37 Göbekli Tepe Day Trip by Plane.
Does this tour visit Harran?
Unclear, and that is the listing's main flaw. Harran is named in the highlights but the full description lists only the Şanlıurfa sights, and one reviewer says the guide's plan had no Harran stop. Ask the operator to confirm, or book the Göbekli Tepe and Harran Day Trip where Harran is on the route.
How long is the day and when does it start?
The listing gives 1 day as the duration with starting times shown at booking, and no return time is stated. Expect a long single-day pattern, roughly the 13 to 18 hours its rivals describe, or split the trip over two days with the Göbekli Tepe 2-Day Private Tour with Flights.
Is Karahan Tepe included?
No, Karahan Tepe is not on this route, which stays with Göbekli Tepe and Şanlıurfa city. To see both Neolithic sites in one day, the Göbekli Tepe and Karahan Tepe from Istanbul trip covers the pair with flights and entrance fees for $900.
What should I bring on the day?
The listing asks for comfortable shoes and clothes, a sun hat, camera, sunscreen, water and cash, and also names a packed lunch even though food is listed as included. Summer maximums in Şanlıurfa reach 39.5 °C, so the sun kit matters. More on Göbekli Tepe tickets and entry.
Can I cancel, and do I pay at booking?
You can cancel free up to 24 hours before departure for a full refund, and reserve now and pay later lets you hold the place without paying today. The same 24-hour terms apply to the Göbekli Tepe Day Trip by Plane, while some rivals are non-refundable.
Do I need a visa or special documents for this trip?
Bring your passport, since one reviewer says you must have it with you. British citizens can visit Turkey without a visa for up to 90 days in any 180 for tourism, with a passport valid at least 150 days after arrival and one blank page. Practical detail sits in the Şanlıurfa guide.
What Travelers Said
The day was long but definitely worth it. Met at the airport exit by the guide Abdulbaki who was very thorough and knowledgeable of the area (history, archaeology, religion and culture). He took us to all the best spots and was very accommodating to our needs. Gobekli Tepe was amazing to see in person and his ability to point out key aspects with explanations was great. The lunch provided was one of the best we have had on our journey. Abrahams cave and the fish pond were magical. I enjoyed exploring their more traditional and non touristy bazaar - especially with a guide! All told, it was a very long day but definitely worth every minute.
This trip was excellent. Transport worked smoothly. Malik, the guide, was excellent. He was very informative and determined to ensure we had the best possible experience. The site itself is impressive and the museum excellent. I can thoroughly recommend this trip.
