Göbekli Tepe Tickets: Prices, Hours and Gate Tips

Göbekli Tepe tickets are the first thing to sort out before you see the site near Şanlıurfa. This page gives the ticket price for foreign visitors today, the new Ministry tariff that starts on 1 April, the joint ticket with Karahan Tepe, the summer and winter opening hours and the conflicting figures other sources print. It also covers the ticket office closing time, the free shuttle from the visitor centre, the rules on the walkway, wheelchair access and which catalog tours already include the entrance fee in their price. For how to reach the site from the city or the airport, see how to get to Göbekli Tepe. The bookable trips are compared on all Göbekli Tepe tours.

Quick answer Price, hours and what is included

Göbekli Tepe tickets cost about €20 to €21 for foreign visitors on secondary sources, and the official Ministry tariff of €22 for the joint Göbekli Tepe and Karahan Tepe site starts on 1 April. The site opens at 08:30 every day, closing at 19:00 in summer and 17:00 in winter on the Taş Tepeler schedule. A free shuttle covers the last kilometre from the visitor centre. Many day tours already include the entrance fee.

Key takeaways

  • The only official figure is the Ministry tariff of €22 for the combined Göbekli Tepe and Karahan Tepe site, valid from 1 April, with secondary sources quoting €20 to €21 before that date. See the ticket price table.
  • Compare the catalog day trips from Istanbul by plane that bundle flights, transfers and the entry ticket into one price.
  • If you are already in the city, the tours from Şanlıurfa list entrance fees as included in most cases.
  • The full site picture, pillars and enclosures, is covered in the Göbekli Tepe guide.

Ticket Prices

Foreign visitors pay a euro tariff set by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and Turkish citizens pay in lira with MüzeKart. The figures below come from the Ministry's official tariff list and from secondary sources that tracked the price before the new tariff.

The Price Table for Foreign Visitors

The table collects every sourced figure for the entry ticket and the visualisation centre. The Ministry tariff is the only official list, and its new prices run from 1 April. The secondary sources quote the price in force before that date, and they disagree by a euro or two, which is why the range for today is about €20 to €21 for the main site.

Check muze.gov.tr before travel to confirm the price on the day you visit. The Ministry footnote says foreign-visitor prices include the Electronic Guidance System audio guide where that service exists.

Why the Figures Differ, and the 2027 Tariff

The Ministry updated its tariffs through Yönetim Kurulu decisions numbered 208 and 210, dated 27.08.2026 and 04.09.2026, and the resulting 2027 list puts the joint Göbekli Tepe and Karahan Tepe site at €22 and the three-way ticket with the visualisation centre at €23. Those euro figures apply from 1 April and should not be read as today's price. Karekod quotes €20 and €21, Backpack Moments quotes 21 EUR for 2026, and Nomadic Niko quotes €20, so the pre-2027 price sits at about €20 to €21 on secondary evidence only.

The Turkish lira figures quoted on some pages, such as 450 TL for a full adult ticket on Eleman.net, are the citizen tariff and not what a foreign visitor pays at the gate. The Ministry list marks Göbekli Tepe as 'MüzeKart ile girilebilir' for Turkish ID holders, so MüzeKart is a citizen card, not a foreigner pass. Eleman.net states MüzeKart is valid only for Turkish citizens, with the standard card giving two free entries a year and MüzeKart Plus unlimited entry. Karekod lists a standard Mobil MüzeKart at 200 TL valid for one year across more than 350 museums and sites.

The Museum Pass Turkey is a different product. My Turkey Adventure puts it at about $220, valid 15 days and covering more than 300 sites including Göbekli Tepe, with an audio guide at about $5 at the entrance. Flypgs quotes only the 2022 entrance fee of TL 90 and says Museum Card holders enter free, which reflects the old citizen rule rather than the current picture. If you plan to see the Şanlıurfa museums too, the Ministry list prices the Archaeology Museum and Haleplibahçe Mosaic Museum together at €11 from 1 April. The same list prices the joint site ticket at €22, the three-way ticket with the visualisation centre at €23 and the centre alone at €5.

Opening Hours by Season

The site opens every day of the year, and the hours split into a summer and a winter schedule. Sources disagree on the switch dates and on one hour of the day, so the table gives the Taş Tepeler official page first and the conflicts after.

The Season Table

The Taş Tepeler project page, which is the Ministry-run site for the region, gives the schedule below and says the site is open every day. The ticket office stops selling 30 minutes before closing, so arriving at 18:30 in summer or 16:30 in winter means no ticket. Build in the drive from Şanlıurfa and the shuttle ride when you pick your arrival time.

The Conflicts, and What to Trust

Three details divide the sources. First, the switch dates: Taş Tepeler uses 1 April and 24 October, Flypgs uses 15 April and 3 October, and My Turkey Adventure uses 1 November for the winter switch. Second, the summer closing hour: Taş Tepeler and Eleman.net say 19:00, while Backpack Moments says 17:30 all year. Third, the last-entry time: My Turkey Adventure puts it a full hour before closing rather than 30 minutes. The Taş Tepeler page is the official source for the Taş Tepeler sites and is the one this page prefers, but a Ministry leaflet for the Şanlıurfa museum gives yet another set, 08:30 to 18:30 with the ticket office at 18:00 in summer, and it is not certain those hours cover the excavation site itself. Eleman.net adds that the site opens every day of the year, which matches Taş Tepeler.

The practical advice is to arrive in the morning. A 08:30 or 09:00 arrival works in either schedule, leaves margin for the ticket office cut-off and beats the midday heat, which in summer can be severe on the exposed hilltop. The Taş Tepeler page lists the Şanlıurfa Archaeology Museum, phone +90 414 313 15 88, as the contact for the site, so a quick call on the day settles any doubt. Allow about 90 minutes at the main site, the figure both My Turkey Adventure and Backpack Moments give for a full visit.

At the Gate: Shuttle, Walkway and Rules

The visit is simple: buy the ticket at the visitor centre, take the free shuttle or walk the last kilometre, and follow the wooden walkway above the enclosures.

Shuttle, Walkway and How Long It Takes

The DAI Tepe Telegrams visitor page says a shuttle bus included in the entrance price carries visitors from the main entrance to the monument, or you can walk the one-kilometre path. Backpack Moments describes a shaded tunnel 200 m from the museum to the shuttle stand and confirms the ride to the top is free. Nomadic Niko calls the shuttles air-conditioned and puts the visitor centre about 1 km from the archaeological site, a ride of a few minutes. Sailing Stone Travel allows 10 to 15 minutes on foot from the shuttle drop-off to the main dome, and notes the enclosures are viewed from an elevated circular walkway. Budget roughly 90 minutes for the main site on top of the transfers.

Facilities are better than the remote setting suggests. Nomadic Niko lists a visitor centre with gift shop, café and restrooms, an upper shuttle stop with its own gift shop, snack bar and restrooms, and an Exhibition Center with a timeline, artifacts and a short film. My Turkey Adventure adds a short animated film, replicas and interactive displays at the centre. Istiklal reports a new welcome centre with a 500-vehicle car park, about 50 bus stops, caravan areas and EV charging, with construction started at the end of 2024.

Rules and Accessibility

The DAI blog sets the rules plainly: the tour follows a wooden walkway, visitors must stay on it, touching the monument or the trenches is forbidden, the site is under constant video surveillance and artefacts must not be collected.

Access is good for a Neolithic hilltop. My Turkey Adventure describes the visitor centre, the shuttles and the main wooden walkway as wheelchair and stroller friendly, with a flat walkway and no stairs. The shuttle removes the 1 km approach, so a visitor who cannot walk far can still reach the viewing walkway and see the enclosures from above.

Tours With the Ticket in the Price

If a guide and transfers appeal, several catalog tours name the entrance fee in their inclusions, which means the gate price above is already covered. The tours below are priced per person, and flights are stated explicitly for each.

Tours That Name the Ticket

The Göbekli Tepe Day Trip by Plane at $915.37 is a private day from Istanbul with return flights and museum tickets and standard admission tickets, with all taxes, in the price. It runs 16 to 18 hours, takes 1 to 12 travelers per booking and stops at the Şanlıurfa museums, Balıklıgöl, Göbekli Tepe and Karahan Tepe.

The Göbekli Tepe and Harran Day Trip at $225 lists entrance fees for any historical sites as included. The $225 from price covers the Şanlıurfa day only, and the Istanbul flights belong to the Full Package option, so do not read the base price as a flight price.

The Göbekli Tepe Private Tour from Şanlıurfa at $449 is an 8-hour private day with entrance fees, lunch and bottled water in the price and no flights, since it starts in Şanlıurfa. It has 46 reviews and a 5.0 rating.

The Göbekli Tepe and Karahan Tepe from Istanbul at $900 includes the domestic flights both ways and entrance fees to Göbekli Tepe and Karahan Tepe, with meals left out.

Tours Where the Ticket Is Not Clear

Not every listing names the gate fee, and the difference matters. The Göbekli Tepe, Harran and Museum Tour at $174 lists museum tickets but does not name Göbekli Tepe admission in its Includes list, so ask the operator before booking. The Göbekli Tepe World's First Temple Tour at $495 omits admissions from the inclusions list, though its itinerary marks admission as included at Göbekli Tepe and Harran, and its flights are not included.

The Göbekli Tepe 2-Day Private Tour at $2,760 names only breakfast in the inclusions, so confirm guide, transport, admissions and the hotel night with the operator directly. When a listing is silent, assume nothing: an unstated ticket is a cost you may pay at the gate yourself, and the section above on Göbekli Tepe tickets tells you what that would be. For the widest price spread across every option, the homepage comparison of Göbekli Tepe tours sorts the catalog by duration, price and start point.

Ticket Tips: Do and Don't

Five moves that save time or money at the gate, and four mistakes the sources show people make.

Do

  • Do buy your ticket before the office cut-off, because the Taş Tepeler schedule stops sales at 18:30 in summer and 16:30 in winter, 30 minutes before closing.
  • Do take the free shuttle from the visitor centre, because it is included in the entrance price and you can also walk the path of about 1 km.
  • Do arrive at 08:30 or 09:00, because the hour works under every published schedule and the exposed hilltop heats up hard in summer.
  • Do check whether your tour names the admission in its inclusions, because listings such as the $174 museum tour and the $495 temple tour leave the Göbekli Tepe ticket unstated.
  • Do add the Şanlıurfa Archaeology Museum to the plan, because the Ministry list prices the Şanlıurfa Archaeology Museum and Haleplibahçe Mosaic Museum together at €11 from 1 April.

Don't

  • Don't treat the €22 Ministry tariff as today's price, because it applies only from 1 April and secondary sources quote about €20 to €21 before that.
  • Don't buy a MüzeKart as a foreign visitor, because the Ministry list and Eleman.net both state the card is valid only for Turkish citizens.
  • Don't step off the wooden walkway or touch the monument or trenches, because the DAI rules forbid it and the site is under constant video surveillance.
  • Don't plan on a fixed closing hour without checking on the day, because sources give summer closings of 17:30, 18:30 and 19:00 and different switch dates, and the museum contact at +90 414 313 15 88 can confirm.

Ticket and Hours FAQ

How much is the Göbekli Tepe entrance fee for foreign visitors?

About €20 to €21 today, with Karekod quoting €20, Backpack Moments 21 EUR for 2026 and Nomadic Niko €20, and the official Ministry tariff of €22 for the joint Göbekli Tepe and Karahan Tepe site applying from 1 April. The full price table is in the ticket price section.

What are the Göbekli Tepe opening hours?

The Taş Tepeler official page gives 08:30 to 19:00 in summer with the ticket office closing at 18:30, and 08:30 to 17:00 in winter with the ticket office at 16:30, open every day. Other sources shift the switch dates and one closing hour, as set out in the opening hours table.

Is there a joint ticket for Göbekli Tepe and Karahan Tepe?

Yes. The Ministry's tariff list prices 'Göbekli Tepe ve Karahan Tepe Örenyeri (Taş Tepeler)' at €22 from 1 April, and a three-way ticket adding the Canlandırma Merkezi visualisation centre at €23, with the centre alone at €5. Both figures are in the price table.

Is the shuttle at Göbekli Tepe free?

Yes. The DAI visitor page says a shuttle bus included in the entrance price runs from the main entrance to the monument, and Backpack Moments confirms the ride to the top is free, with the walk of about 1 km also possible. Transfers are also built into tours such as the Göbekli Tepe Private Tour from Şanlıurfa.

How long does a visit to Göbekli Tepe take?

About 90 minutes at the main site is the estimate from My Turkey Adventure and Backpack Moments, plus a few minutes on the shuttle or a 10 to 15 minute walk from the shuttle drop-off to the main dome. Tours such as the Göbekli Tepe and Harran Day Trip budget the whole day for the site plus Harran.

Do I need a Museum Pass or MüzeKart for Göbekli Tepe?

MüzeKart is for Turkish citizens only, so it does not apply to foreign visitors. The Museum Pass Turkey, quoted by My Turkey Adventure at about $220 for 15 days and more than 300 sites including Göbekli Tepe, can make sense on a wide itinerary. The ticket rules are in the prices section.

Skip the ticket maths entirely and take the private day trip from Istanbul with return flights and the entrance tickets already in the price.
